# Discord

> Mention your assistants in a Discord server or message them directly. Coming soon, with a token from your own Discord application.

Status: Coming soon

Discord is a place to mention an assistant in a channel of your own server, or to message it directly, and get a reply, progress, and Approve and Reject buttons in the same place.

> [!SOON]
> Discord is Coming soon. Chat in the StellarFirm app at [stellarfirm.ai/app](https://stellarfirm.ai/app) works today. See [Delegate work](/docs/ceo/delegate-work) for every place you can hand work over.

## What assistants can do

| Ability | How it runs |
| --- | --- |
| Receive mentions and direct messages | Reads on its own |
| Reply in the same channel | Reads on its own |
| Ask you to Approve or Reject work, with buttons in the channel | Reads on its own (it only asks; the decision stays with you) |

## Setup (when it opens)

1. In the Discord developer portal, create an application and copy its token.
2. Invite the application to your server with the permissions listed below.
3. Find your Discord user id, so only you can send instructions.
4. Optionally, note your server id too, so the app answers only there.

Today these are set in the configuration of a self-hosted StellarFirm setup, not from the app. When Discord opens, you will connect it under **Integrations**.

## Permissions

Invite the application with just these permissions:

- **View Channels**, so it can see where it was mentioned.
- **Send Messages**, so it can reply.
- **Read Message History**, so it can follow a conversation.

You can limit it to specific servers, and only the user ids you list are answered.

## Good to know

- **Approve in the channel.** When work needs you, the request arrives with **Approve** and **Reject** buttons. Only the person who asked can press them, and the first press wins. You can also reply `approve` or `reject` with the mention when one request is waiting, or use the [Approvals page](https://stellarfirm.ai/app/approvals).
- Routines and hand-offs between assistants are not started from Discord.
- Your StellarFirm workspace connects out to Discord, so you do not need to open any address on your side.
- Your token stays in your StellarFirm setup and is never shown back to you. The page shows only that it is connected.
- Use a private server or a private channel. Anyone who can read the channel can read the replies.
