# Datadog

> Let the Coder read your Datadog logs, metrics, monitors, and traces while it debugs. Read only, through Datadog's own hosted connector. Coming soon.

Status: Coming soon

Datadog watches your running systems. Once you connect it, the Coder can read your logs, metrics, monitors, and traces while it debugs, so it can see what is failing before it changes any code.

> [!SOON]
> The Datadog integration is Coming soon. This page describes how it will work. The integrations open at launch are GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket.

## Which assistants use it

| Assistant | Status |
| --- | --- |
| [Coder](/docs/personas/coder) | Available |

The Coder is the only persona available today, and it is the one that uses Datadog.

## What assistants can do

Datadog connects through the tool's own hosted connector, and it is read only.

| Ability | How it runs |
| --- | --- |
| Read logs | Reads on its own |
| Read metrics | Reads on its own |
| Read monitors | Reads on its own |
| Read traces | Reads on its own |
| Anything that would change a monitor, a dashboard, or a setting | Never run from chat |

## Setup (when it opens)

1. In Datadog, open your organization settings.
2. Create an access token and copy it.
3. In the same area, create an application token and copy it. Datadog needs both.
4. Open [Integrations](https://stellarfirm.ai/app/integrations) in StellarFirm and pick Datadog.
5. Paste the access token and the application token, switch on the live option, and press Connect.

## Permissions

- The assistant sees what the application token's owner is allowed to see in Datadog.
- Nothing here waits for an Approve because nothing here changes data. Edits are never run from chat.
- Revoke either token in Datadog whenever you want to cut access.

## Good to know

- Datadog runs in several regions. If your account is outside the main one, the connection needs your region's address; the setup screen will tell you when it opens.
- Name the service and the time window, for example "the API service, last hour". Logs are large, and a narrow question gets a sharper answer.
- During a coding session the Coder gets read-only tools for Datadog, so it can check an error against the logs while it fixes it.

## Prompts to try

```prompt title="Check recent errors"
Coder, check the error logs for [service] from the last hour and tell me what is failing before you change any code.
```

```prompt title="Look at a monitor"
Coder, which Datadog monitors are alerting right now? For each one, tell me the likely cause. Read only.
```

```prompt title="Trace a slow request"
Coder, find a slow trace for [endpoint] from today and explain where the time goes. Do not change anything.
```
